Principal's Report

Dear Families,

STUDENT WELLBEING DAY + FAMILY STEM SHOWCASE & GAMES AFTERNOON

Congratulations to all involved in what was a terrifically successful day last Friday. Students, staff and families relished the opportunity to engage and show student learning and have fun as a community.

Tomorrow at assembly we will draw the winners of the SWPBS raffle. As part of the SWPBS celebration, students spent all day both demonstrating our school-wide expected behaviours from the SWPBS Matrix and handing out raffle tickets to fellow students they observed displaying them. Needless to say, the raffle ticket bucket is full to the brim, with students demonstrating how to be respectful, responsible and resilient throughout the day’s excitement.

Thank you to the many families who came along and supported the event. Thank you too to the P&F and Garden Club for running their stalls and providing afternoon tea. Thank you to all staff and parent volunteers for enabling this to be such a success, supporting students through the day’s wellbeing activities and through the afternoon challenges. A special thank you to Miss Cook and the Wellbeing Team for all their work organising and coordinating activities through the day, and to Mr Vaught for all the work involved in getting the students prepared and ready to show-off all their amazing STEM games.

The day well and truly achieved its objectives to celebrate and relaunch our SWPBS expected behaviours, showcase the outstanding STEM program at Wallington, and bring the community together and just have some fun!

SPECIAL HALLOWEEN LUNCH

Thank you to the P&F for organising today’s special lunch. The students very much enjoyed their lunches and, as always, the offer was well supported. Special thanks to Paige Bogan and Baker’s Delight for supplying the finger buns and savory bites – delicious!

DISTRICT SWIMMING TOMORROW

Best of luck to all students participating in the Peninsula District Swimming Trials tomorrow. It is great to see so many 3-6 students taking part and challenging themselves in their chosen strokes. We look forward to hearing how they get on. Parents are welcome to attend and support (see Compass for further details).

ROAD SAFETY REMINDER

In light of the incredibly tragic events at a Melbourne primary school this week, we’re reminded of the importance of road safety within our own community. To ensure the safety of all students and families, please take a moment to review our carpark rules and drop-and-go procedures carefully.

Our Drop Zone improvements, including the addition of permanent bollards, help create a safer pedestrian space in front of the school. However, it’s vital that we all share a commitment to road safety by following the school’s Traffic Management Plan.

This includes:

·         Waiting until you’re in the Drop Zone to let your children exit the car.

·         Moving slowly (5 km/h speed limit) and maintaining a smooth flow by using designated parking if you need extra time.

·         Crossing roads carefully, particularly in poor weather.

Thank you for your ongoing support in keeping our school community safe.

Preps - Yayoi Kusama Sculpture Flowers

We discussed artist Yayoi Kusama's 3D flowers and sculpted our own 3D flower by using magiclay and pushed in beads to appear as dots.

Preps threaded on straws and beads on to wire and used plasticine as a weight to hold the flower upright.  They look fantastic Preps!

Physical Education News

WPS students have been lucky enough to have been accepted for a grant in PE this term, where they have embarked on an exciting journey with the Ulti-Mates program! Students have been working on the skills and confidence to embrace Ultimate Frisbee! Through a series of modified games, Ulti-Mates introduces students to fundamental movement skills, including the art of throwing and catching a frisbee. Students have also been working on improving and developing their teamwork and fair play abilities. Well done everyone and enjoy!
